Leona M. Evenson

Minnesota Lake Leona Margaret Evenson, age 94, of Minnesota Lake, died Monday, Feb. 20, 2012, at Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton.

Funeral Services were held Feb. 24, 2012, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Easton. The Rev. Robert Bailey officiated and burial took place in St. Peter Cemetery, Lura Township, Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells assisted the family with the arrangements.

Leona was born Jan. 26, 1918, to Louis and Edith Wiese in Cherry County, Neb. She married Nelver Evenson on Nov. 2, 1936, in Pine River. She farmed for years in rural Minnesota Lake alongside her husband.?She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Easton where she was a long-time Sunday School teacher and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was also a 4-H leader. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her children and grandchildren.

Leona is survived by sons, Jerry (Janice) Evenson, of Easton, and Paul Evenson, of Minnesota Lake; daughters, Phyllis (Carl) Voges, of Bricelyn, and Marlys (Mark) Segar, of Cherokee, Iowa; daughters-in-law, Mary Evenson Wentler, of Waverly, Iowa, and Kay Sonnek, of Minnesota Lake; 19 grandchildren, Robert Voges, Jean Ann Eisenhauer, Jane Anderson, Janice Berndt, John Voges, Sara Voges, Cathi Currier, Rhonda Woitas, Ronald Evenson Jr., Cristine Blaschko, Bradley Evenson, Garrett Evenson, Krista Miller, Aaron Sonnek, Jeffrey Evenson, Jason Evenson, Tracy Segar, Travis Segar and Tricia Schadl. She is also survived by 32 great-grandchildren, Jessica, JoAnna, Jennie, Jamie, Jeremiah, Lillian, Jonathon, Jordan, Tara, Tina, Katie, Cody, Brandon, Darin, Dylan, Eric, Ryan, Hannah, Ethan, James, Tyler, Lucas, Evan, Alicia, Serena, Gabrielle, Noah, Ava, Drake, Reve, Evalee and Avrie; six great-great-grandchildren, Taylor, Dylan, Jordyn, August, Madisyn and Anastazia; sister, Tillie Rice; brother, Barney (Eldon) Wiese; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Evenson, Grace Wiese and Janet Wiese; many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Edith Wiese; her husband, Nelver, in 1989; sons, Ronald and James; sisters, Anna Yaryan, Nellie Scofield, Dorothy Swift; brothers, Arthur, Louis, Elmer, Harold, Harry and Donald Wiese.
