Virginia R. Hauge, 81
Elmore Virginia Ruth (Knudtson) Hauge, was born Aug. 7, 1930, to Simon and Mildred (Leigh) Knudtson, in Callaway, Neb. She grew up and graduated high school in Highmore, S.D.
Virginia attended General Beadle Normal School in Madison, S.D., and then went on to continue her education at Huron?College. There she met her husband,?Melvin. The couple moved to Florence, S.D., where they began their careers as educators and ended in Elmore capping a 32-year teaching career for Virginia, with country schools in between.
Virginia was very active in the Shiloh Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed the quilting group there. She loved flower gardening, fishing with the family and cooking for her loved ones. Christmas at Grandma Hauge’s was a memorable time for everyone and her specialty was “klub” (potato dumplings).
She is survived by and will be greatly missed by her loving husband, Melvin; her daughter, Katherine (Michael) Bauer, of Gilbert, Ariz.; her sons, Robert (Linda) Hauge, of Lake Crystal, M. John (Laurie) Hauge, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Thomas (Debra) Hauge, of Mankato, Phillip (Rita) Hauge, of New Ulm, Daniel (Cheryl) Hauge, of Sioux Falls, and David Hauge, of Anaheim, Calif.; her grandchildren, Molly and Kyle Hauge, Ryan, Casey, Tyler, Robb, Dustin, Ashley and Sadie Hauge, Michael, Brian and Danny Hauge, Jessica and Melissa Hauge and Mike, Maranda and Kurtis Bauer; her 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Arnie) Webb, of Harrold, S.D.; and sister-in-law, Caroline Hood, of Moscow, Idaho.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Marvin and Melvin; and sister, Deloris.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Shiloh Lutheran Church are requested.
Virginia Hauge, age 81, of Elmore, passed away Friday, Feb. 24, 2012, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth.
Services were held March 2, 2012, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Jacobsen & Winter Funeral Home and Cremation Service assisted the family with the arrangements.
