Cyril J. “Cy” Paul

Maquoketa, Iowa Cyril J. “Cy” Paul, age 77, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012, at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 18, 2012, at Sacred Hearth Catholic Church, Maquoketa. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa, with military honors. Lahey Funeral & Cremation Services in Maquoketa was in charge of arrangements.

Cyril John Paul was born Feb. 6, 1935, in Easton, the son of Raymond and Rose (Schimek) Paul. On Aug. 23, 1958, he was united in marriage to Bernadine “Bernie” Bleess in Blue Earth.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict.

Cy worked for Easton Farmers Elevator in Easton, and was the District Manager for Northrup King Seed and Agri Pro Seeds. He also drove the Handicap Bus for Maquoketa Schools.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Timber City American Legion Post #75, and a 3rd Degree member of Knights of Columbus Fr. Loosbrock Council #8269, Maquoketa, and past member of Maquoketa Rotary. Cy was well known for his ticket selling ability and loved to build furniture.

Cy is survived by his wife, Bernie Paul, of Maquoketa; his seven children, Mary (Bob) Cortez, of San Angelo, Texas, Steve (Dawn) Paul, of Maquoketa, Ann (Dwight) Reid, of Onslow, Iowa, Lori (Greg Ehlinger) McCaulley, of Bernard, Iowa, Sue (Mike) Van Buer, of Maquoketa, Carol (Pat) Ehlinger, of Winona, and Kristin (Rick Gaebel) Groff, of Omaha, Neb.; 16 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Evelyn (M.C.) Hardy, of Lakeville, George (Naomi) Paul, of Easton, Carolyn (Jim) Willette, of Easton, Mary (Jim) Murry, of Delavan, Gene (Jane) Paul, of Delavan, and Ron (Marti) Paul, of Eden Prairie; and several brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margaret; and three brothers, R. Bernie, Donald and Dunnell.

Memorials are preferred.
