Blue Earth Gladys Rosella (Knutson) Oakland was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, to parents Nellie (Olson) and Carl Knutson. She was baptized and confirmed at Swede Home Lutheran Church.
Gladys and Juell were married on Nov. 5, 1949, at the home of her parents, Carl and Nellie Knutson. This marriage was blessed with two children: Paul and Jean. Juell and Gladys farmed until they moved to Clarkfield in 1966, where she worked at Olson’s Bakery and the caf.
Gladys was active in her church, Augustana Lutheran. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, fishing, camping, gardening and baking. Gladys crocheted numerous doilies and afghans and embroidered many pillow cases and dish towels.
She entered Friendship Court Assisted Living at St. Luke’s Lutheran Home in Blue Earth in July of 2007. She passed away early Saturday morning, Dec. 22, 2012, at the age of 87 years, 3 months and 22 days.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (George) Murphy, of Blue Earth; grandchildren, Jason (Angela) Murphy, of Blue Earth, Kimberly Murphy, of Millport, Ala.; and one step-great-grandchild, Gracelyn. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Marlys (Jack) Londgren, of Clarkfield; brother-in-law, Lars Oakland, of Hector; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul; husband, Juell; sisters, Leona Anderson and Alice Christianson; and brothers, Wallace and Marvin Knutson.
Funeral Services were held Dec. 26, 2012, at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield. The Rev. Steve Quist officiated. Her final resting place was in Clarkfield City Cemetery in Clarkfield.
