William Stevermer

Blue Earth William “Bill” Stevermer, age 74, of Blue Earth, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 5, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The Rev. Leo Kappola officiated and burial was in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Barber Township, Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.

William was born June 4, 1938, the son of William H. and Lucille (O’Rourke) Stevermer in Easton. He graduated from Wells High School in 1956 and the University of Minnesota, School of Agriculture in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He returned to the Easton area to farm and married his love, Mary Catherine LaCanne on Sept. 28, 1963. In their 49 years of marriage, the couple found much joy in raising their eight children. Bill loved to attend his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. In addition to his family he had a genuine love of farming. He had a passion for feeding cattle, and raising hogs. In his retirement, he enjoyed planting and combining and driving semi for his sons. He also loved to hunt fox in his earlier years, and has hunted deer for many years. He loved watching all types of sports on TV, especially the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. His kind heart and soft chuckle will be missed by many family and friends. He did not know a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone near or far.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cathy, of Blue Earth; eight children: Theresa (Dan) Sweers, of West Des Moines, Iowa, Joe (Teresa) Stevermer, of Easton, Marie (Curt) Vajgrt, of Urbandale, Iowa, Colleen (Matt) Vukovich, of Brookings, S.D., Mike (Amy) Stevermer, of Easton, Deb (Garett) Lammers, of Waukesha, Wis., Brad (Heidi) Stevermer, of Easton, and Cheryl (Tyler) Sonnek, of Shakopee; 24 grandchildren: Aaron, Danielle, Brittany, Lauren, Alayna, Nathan, Grace, William and Isabelle Sweers; Katelyn, Jenna, Shayna, Callie Jo, Macie, Seth and Mitchell Stevermer, Carmen and Madelyn Vajgrt, Jacob, Caleb and Ben Vukovich, and Abigail, Josie and Molly Lammers; two brothers: Thomas, of Blue Earth, and Dr. Emmett (Mary), of Ames, Iowa; three sisters: Sister Mary Owen, of Mankato, Irene Mikkalson, of Burnsville, and Alice (Lawrence) Killion, of Mankato; sister-in-law, Margaret Stevermer, of Easton; and uncle Clem “Bud” Stevermer, of Wells. Along with many nieces, nephews, and their families as well as cousins and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond; and infant brother, Paul.
