James “Jim” Murry

Delavan James “Jim” Murry, age 80, of Delavan, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at his home in rural Delavan surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Jan. 28, 2013, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The Rev. Leo Koppala officiated and interment was in Calvary Cemetery, rural Delavan. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements.

James Gregory Murry was born July 29, 1932, in Prescott Township, Faribault County, the son of Gregory and Lauretta (Symington) Murry. He was united in marriage to Mary Christina Paul on Nov. 26, 1953, and the couple farmed near Delavan. Jim was in the United States Army from 1954-1956. He was a member of the Delavan School Board, Elevator Board, South Central Mutual Insurance and the Prescott Township Board as well as a trustee of Calvary Cemetery. He was employed by the Minnesota State Fair for over 50 years. He was an avid sports fan, especially of his children and grandchildren.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mary, of Delavan; four children, Jeanette (Mike) Verdoorn, of Blue Earth, Barb (David) Austinson, Ken (Karin) Murry, and Brian (Janelle) Murry, all of Kasson; 11 grandchildren, Michelle (Zac) Kniess, Laura (Trudell) Kolpack, Vanessa, Bob (fianc, Kaylyn Meyers), Rachel (Brandon Gilbertson), Drew, Derrick, Becky, Nick, Carter and Addie; and four great-grandchildren, Brock, Rowayn, Ryan and Arnez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill (Marlyce) Murry; niece, Judy Hauer; and daughter,?Cathy.

Memorials preferred to United Hands Hospice or Father Leo’s Orphanage.
