Betty and Raymond Sasse, both 87

Red Wing Betty and Raymond Sasse, both age 87, of Red Wing and formerly of Blue Earth and Winnebago, died only two days apart, on June 3 and 5, 2013, at St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park.

Memorial Services were held June 8, 2013, at the Chapel at St. Brigid’s at Hi-Park. Rev. Barbara von Haaren officiated. Burial will be at a later date at the Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth. Funeral arrangements were by the Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson Mahn Chapel.

Betty was born April 12, 1926, in Blue Earth, to Paul E. and Francis (Hughes) Dray. She graduated from Blue Earth High School.

Raymond was born Dec. 26, 1925, in Emerald Township, to George E. and Pearl E. (Cartwright) Sasse. He attended schools in Winnebago. He enlisted in the U.S. Army until he was honorably discharged and he later enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in Duluth.

Betty and Raymond were united in marriage on Sept. 26, 1947, and they lived in Winnebago, later moving to Blue Earth. They both worked for Don’s Fleet Supply and Ray also had other jobs throughout the years. They retired and eventually returned to Winnebago. In 2011, they moved to Red Wing. In Betty’s spare time, she enjoyed cross stitching. In Ray’s spare time, he enjoyed woodcarving and he taught woodcarving courses in the summer at the Waldorf College. He was a very skilled wood carver, and had been a member of the Blue Earth Wood Carvers and he was also a member of the VFW in Blue Earth. They both loved attending craft fairs and were members of Hope United Methodist Church in Blue Earth.

They are survived by their three children, Tom (Cheryl) Sasse, of Red Wing, Michael (Jill) Sasse, of Guttenberg, Iowa, and Kathryn Eggert, of Rochester; six grandchildren, Tara Larsen, Joshua Sasse, Jason Sasse, Krista Belanger, Aaron Sasse, and Nicole Eggert; and 10 great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by one sister, Donna (Harley) Skogen, of Blue Earth. Ray was preceded in death by one brother, Robert.
