Winnebago Dale Lloyd, age 78, of Winnebago, died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Mankato.

Funeral Services were held on June 11, 2013, at First United Methodist Church in Winnebago. The Rev. Gary Branam officiated. Burial was in Vernon Center Cemetery, Vernon Center. Spencer-Owen Funeral Home in Winnebago was in charge of arrangements.

Dale was born Jan. 19, 1935, in Amboy, the son of Ralph J. and Ima P. (Buckminster) Lloyd. He was raised and educated in Amboy where he was a 1953 graduate of Amboy High School. He soon entered the U.S. Navy and later returned to the Amboy area. He worked for Pride Seed Corn and Fuller Construction of Amboy before re-enlisting in the Navy. He was a career Naval man serving on submarines and aircraft carriers for several years while earning the rank of Master Chief, the highest rank for enlisted sailors. He was also electrical and nuclear power trained. During his service he was married to Jackie Beck on June 29, 1961, in Winnebago. Two children were born prior to Dale’s retirement from service in 1976. He returned to Winnebago where he worked for Stokely-Vankamps, later known as Pic Sweet and United Foods, in Fairmont, as an electrician for several years. He also worked for Cuddy Energy before his retirement in the late 1990s. He was instrumental in helping his son with his business, Lloyd Electric. Dale enjoyed his large vegetable garden, hunting for morel mushrooms, his daily visits to Kwik Trip, deer hunting and watching his grandson’s baseball games and granddaughter’s softball games whenever he could. His grandkids meant the world to him and he will be greatly missed.

Dale is survived by his wife, Jackie Lloyd, of Winnebago; his son, Charlie (Becky) Lloyd, of Mapleton; his daughter, Sharron (Alan) Christian, of Mapleton; grandchildren, Mitchell, Logan, Carly Lloyd, Malachi (Abby) Dahms, Emili, Bailie, Rachel and Sophie Christian; and great-grandchildren, Hattie and Noah. He is also survived by his siblings, Arlo (Katie) Lloyd, of Alexandria, Va., Dean (Nancy) Lloyd, of Elmore, and Owen (Bev) Lloyd, of Delavan, Aletha Zachariah, of Mankato, Jessica (Lenny) Kijenski, of Hugo, and Shirley DeAngelo, of Warminster, Pa., John Lloyd, of Amboy, Arlan (Dawn) Lloyd, of Gruver, Texas, Linda (Bob) Nesbit, of Thunderbay, Canada, and Jerry Lloyd, of Hammond, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Nyla Sauter, and Lois Hartman; and brothers, James, Joe and Tom Lloyd.
