Eloi A. Hamre, 83
Dassel Eloi Alfred Hamre, age 83, of Dassel, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.
A Memorial Service was held Aug. 7, 2013, at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson with interment in the Riverside Cemetery, in Blue Earth. Chaplain Robert Rolander officiated and Military Honors accorded by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad.
Eloi Alfred Hamre was born May 27, 1930, in Blue Earth. He was the son of Peder and Hazel (Johnson) Hamre. Eloi was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue?Earth. He was a graduate of Blue Earth High School Class of 1948. Eloi furthered his education for one year at the University of Minnesota. Eloi entered active military service in the United States Marine Corps in 1951. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1953.
On May 27, 1951, Eloi was united in marriage to Alta Cahoon at the Methodist Church in Elmore. This marriage was blessed with two children, Susan (Mrs. Dave Neubarth) and Peter. Eloi and Alta resided in San Diego, Calif., during Eloi’s military service, later moving to Blue Earth and to Hutchinson in 1962. They celebrated 60 years of marriage until Alta passed away on June 14, 2011.
From 1962 to 1967, Eloi served as the Executive Director for the Hutchinson Chamber of Commerce. In 1967, he began his career as a lobbyist for several organizations including the Minnesota Retail Federation, Minnesota Economic Development, Minnesota Chiropractic Association and others. He will always be remembered for his voice on the radio as a Hutchinson Sports announcer and his Saturday night radio program and other radio work. Eloi was a member of Toastmasters International and Jaycees, Blue Earth American Legion #89, Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson. He taught Sunday School and was a Boy Scout leader. Eloi also served as a McLeod County Commissioner.
Eloi enjoyed gardening, golfing, playing bridge and dancing. He liked being a shade tree mechanic. Eloi and Alta also traveled throughout much of the country for work and pleasure.
When Eloi needed assistance with his daily care, he became a resident of Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel, in June of 2011. He passed away there on Sunday, July 21, 2013, at the age of 83 years.

Eloi is survived by his children,?Susan (Dave) Neubarth, of Hutchinson, and Peter Hamre, of Dassel; brother, LaVern Hamre, of Laramie, Wyo.; niece, Natalie (Don) Dahl, of Mankato; nephew, Roger Kray, of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; step-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
Eloi is preceded in death by his parents, Peder and Hazel Hamre; wife, Alta Hamre; sister, Charlien Mack; sister-in-law, Marian Kray; and brother-in-law, Heye Kray.
