Virginia “Ginny” Fischer, 70
Oak Park Heights Virginia “Ginny” Fischer, age 70, of Oak Park Heights, died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Boutwells Landing Hospice Care in Oak Park Heights.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. The Rev. Peter Klein officiated. Burial was in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Minnesota Lake. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service was in charge of arrangements.
She was born Dec. 20, 1942, at Mankato, the daughter of Detlev and Mary (Albertson) Schmidt. She graduated from Minnesota Lake High School in 1960 and Northwestern Hospital School of Nursing in 1963. On Aug. 21, 1965, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato she married John William Fischer. In 1981 she graduated from Mankato State College with a Bachelors of Sociology Degree which was one of many accomplishments throughout her life.
She loved to travel which is evident in the fact she lived in various cities, Orr’s Island, Maine, Gallup, N.M., Beale Air Force Base, Calif., Blue Earth, Chama, N.M., and Oak Park Heights. During her life she mentored young women, was a nurse for many years at the Assisi Home in?Blue Earth, more recently worked as the Health Aid at Braham Public School, and in 2001 she was able to quit smoking.
She is survived by her son, Jonathan (Kim) Fischer, of Middleton, Wis., daughter, Maryanna (Steven) Hatting, of Bothell, Wash., son, Matthew Wyman (Kellie) Fischer, of Fairmont, and son, Adam (Wendy) Fischer, of Mahtomedi; sister, Margaret (David) Kauffmann, of Minnesota Lake; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; and her parents.
