Glen V. Stedman, 85

Fairmont Memorial Service for Glen V. Stedman, age 85, of Fairmont was held Oct. 4, 2013, at the Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Fairmont with military honors provided by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post 36 and Martin County V.F.W. Post 1222. Inurnment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Glen passed away Sunday morning, Sept. 29, 2013, at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont assisted the family with the arrangements.

Glen Vernon Stedman was born on Jan. 19, 1928, in Stacyville, Iowa. He was the son of William and Clara (Young) Stedman.

Glen enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 6, 1950. He achieved the rank of Corporal (T) and earned an honorable discharge on Sept. 21, 1952.

On Jan. 1, 1954, Glen was united in marriage to Sylvia Sager at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fairmont. This union was blessed with five children, Cherise, Susan, James, Bernita and David. The couple resided in Fairmont where Glen worked as a carpenter for Walt Marquart. He later worked at Railway Motors until his retirement. Glen and Silvia shared fifty-nine years together.

Glen was a member of Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fairmont. He also held a life membership in the Martin County V.F.W. Post 1222.

Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sylvia Stedman, of Fairmont; children, Cherise (John) Shimmel, of Fairmont, Susan (Mark) Albers, of Fairmont, James (Bonnie) Stedman, of Delavan, Bernita (Jack) Hansen, of Racine, Wis., and David Stedman, of Fairmont; seven grandchildren, Tom, Kyle, Jessica, Amanda, Cody, Cassidy, and Dylan; five step-grandchildren, Stacy, George, Jim, Jerry, and Jenine; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Stedman, of Cedar Creek, Texas; and many other relatives and friends.

Along with his parents, William and Clara Stedman, Glen was also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin and Elsie Sager; grandson, Eric Stedman; and brother, Wayne Stedman.
