Fairmont Services for Donald M. Strauser, age 87, of Fairmont, were held March 13, 2014, at the Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont with full military honors by the Lee C. Prentice American Legion Post #36 and the Martin County VFW Post #1222. Burial will be held at a later date. Don passed away Sunday morning, March 9, 2014, at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont assisted the family with the arrangements.

Donald Merlin Strauser was born on Aug. 6, 1926, at his aunt’s home in Winnebago, the son of Thomas Henry and Clara (Wing) Strauser. He attended country school in Martin County.

On Sept. 1, 1948, Don was united in marriage to Evelyn Dorothy Kloeck at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago. Together the couple made their home on a farm near Granada, where they lived until moving to Fairmont in 1989. To this union five children were born, Dale, Patricia, Bruce, Jeffrey, and Michele.

Don farmed for many years and ran the Hi-Boy Spraying business. Following his move off the farm to Fairmont in 1989, he began working part-time for Crop Production. He also ran the Huntley Grocery Store. In 2009, Don officially retired.

Don was a member of the American Legion for 36 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing cards, fishing, bowling, and playing golf. He will be greatly missed by those that loved him and called him their friend.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Evelyn Strauser, of?Blue?Earth; children, Dale (Linda) Strauser, of Granada, Patricia Johnson, of Amboy, Bruce Strauser, of Lacey, Wash., Jeffrey (Kitty) Strauser, of Marion, Iowa, and Michele Ehlert, of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; sister, Joyce (Maurice) Roe, of Winnebago; as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Clara Strauser; sister, Geraldine; and two brothers, Thomas Strauser and LeRoy Strauser.
