Marlin E. Feist, 83

Wells Marlin Earl (Marly) Feist, age 83, of Wells, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the Mapleton Community Nursing Home.

A Memorial Service was held on April 25, 2014, at the United Methodist Church in Wells. Rev. Paul Woolverton officiated and burial was in Rosehill Cemetery, Wells. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

The youngest child of William and Dorathea (Krumwiede) Feist, Marly was born Aug. 21, 1930, in rural Easton and later moved to Dunbar Township. He attended country school through the seventh grade and graduated from Wells High School in 1949. Marly enjoyed sports while in high school, where he excelled in football, baseball, basketball and track, in which he held the school record in the 100 and 200 yard dash for over twenty years.

Marly married Lorna Stevermer on Sept. 11, 1954, and the couple was blessed with six sons. A self-taught electrician, Marly worked as a lineman for the Wells Rural Electric Association (REA) until 1963, when he began farming southeast of Wells, until his retirement. He also worked for Walt Soost Electric and Jim Sorom Construction. Marly was proud of his many years of service on the Board of Directors of the Wells Rural Electric Association and the Minnesota Rural Electric Association, where he served as Statewide Vice President. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and a lifetime member of the Wells United Methodist Church, where he participated in numerous Church committees and activities.

Marly enjoyed fishing, bowling, golf, baseball and softball, and especially spending time with his family. He was a hard-working man who was dedicated to supporting his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.

He is survived by Lorna, his wife of 59 years; six sons, Jim (Ann), of Mankato, Brian, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Randy (Barb), of Wells, Tom (Kristi), of Wells, Rick (Anne), of Wells, and Brett (GeDee), of Wells; eight grandchildren, Ryan Feist, Rachael (Jason) Bungarden, Jon (Nikki) Feist, Ashley Feist, Adam Feist, Hannah (Nathan) Goette, Hayden Feist, and Kaden Engebretson; three great-grandchildren, Siddalee and Ever Bungarden, and Lennox Feist; one sister, Garnette Latusek, of Minnesota Lake; along with many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorathea Feist; sisters, Lillian (Bert) Olson, and Mildred (Roy) Teufert; and brothers, Marvin, Roland, and twin brother, Harlin.
