Winston Tagatz, 89
Blue Earth Winston Tagatz, age 89, died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at his home.
Memorial services were held on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. Rev. Wesley Hafner officiated. Burial will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Winston was born March 14, 1925, in Blue Earth, the son of Edwin and Helene (Eckhardt) Tagatz. He went to school in Frost where he graduated from Frost High School in 1943. After high school he helped farm his family farm and later rented his own farm. He was married to Betty J. Bell on Nov. 12, 1950 in Emerald Township. Winston purchased the Phillips 66 Bulk Oil Co. in Blue Earth in the early 1960s. He owned the oil co. for many years, retiring in 1991. Winston enjoyed woodworking, gardening, doing seasonal farm work and traveling with Betty during his retirement.
Winston is survived by his sons, Mark (Deb) Tagatz, of Woodbury, and Steve Tagatz, of Blue Earth; brother, Waldo (Charlotte) Tagatz, of Rochester; sisters-in-law: Kathryn Tagatz, of Blue Earth, Priscilla Sohn, of Long Lake, Clarice Burke, of Rochester; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Michael Tagatz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Betty in 2008 and a brother, Richard Tagatz.
