Myrl was born July 28, 1936, in Elmore, the son of August and Elsie (Brocker) Stenzel. Myrl was raised and lived his entire life on his family farm east of Elmore. Myrl graduated from Elmore High School in 1953. He was united in marriage to Mavis Mikkelson on Nov. 24, 1956 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Soon after, he served in the U.S. National Guard during the Vietnam War. Myrl was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed raising corn and soybeans with his longtime farm partner and friend, Virgil Klatt. For 40 years, Myrl sold seed. He started selling O’s Gold seed in 1967 and retired selling Asgrow/Dekalb in 2007. He enjoyed the relationships he developed with his customers and he always had time to tell a joke or two. His greatest joy by far was following his kids and grandkids in school and sporting events.
