Judith H. Asmus, 98
Blue Earth Judith H. Asmus, age 98, of Blue Earth, formerly of Bricelyn, died Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015, at St. Luke’s Care Center in Blue Earth.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at the St. Luke’s Chapel in Blue Earth. Interment was at Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery, the Rev. Arne Halbakken officiated.
On June 8, 1916, Helmer and Mabel (Selthun) Gestie welcomed their first born child into the world. They named their daughter Judith Hazel Luella. She was soon joined by siblings Marion, Irene and Robert. They grew up on the family farm in Rome Township and attended the Egeness Country School. Judith was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She was confirmed and married by the Reverend N. Okerlund. She was active in choir, WELCA, quilting and church circle. Judith graduated from Bricelyn High School in the class of 1934. She married Harry Asmus on June 30, 1941. To this union two daughters were born, Kathryn Ann and Mary Lynn. Judith loved her five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She loved planning Grandchildren Day events. Judith was a wonderful baker and cook; she expressed her love through gifts from her kitchen. A coffee party at her house was always more than just coffee.
Judith was preceded in death by her parents, husband; granddaughter Sarah Haukoos; siblings and their spouses; and many dear friends.
Judith is survived by her children, Kathryn (Rollin) Wempen, of Pine River, and Mary (Ronald) Haukoos, of Bricelyn; grandchildren, Debra Wempen, Lori (Dane) Tammeus, Paul (Tina) Wempen, and Bill (Rachel) Haukoos; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Alexandra, Madelyn, Katie, Emma, Amber and Torin; as well as special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family wishes to express special appreciation and thanks to the staff of St. Luke’s and Friendship Court for their loving care.
Judith’s family is comforted by her confirmation verse; Revelations 2:10, “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
