Gary Philipp, 72

Monticello Gary Lee Philipp, of Monticello and Weslaco, Texas, passed away on Feb. 23, 2015, at the age of 72, after a two year battle with cancer.

Gary was born on Jan. 20, 1943. He graduated in 1960 from Blue Earth High School. He attended vocational school for carpentry, in Austin, prior to a 38 year career as a craftsman carpenter.

Gary is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janice (Arndt) Philipp; daughter Kelly (Paul) Crum, and grandsons, Wyatt, Sawyer, and Parker, of Georgia; daughter, Kari (Jon) Kortge, and grandsons, Tyler and Zachery, of Michigan.

Gary awed many with his talents to craft, construct or repair, and was a proud 50-year member of his Carpenters Union. His retirement joy and pride was spending time with his grandsons, as well as fishing the lakes of Minnesota and Gulf waters of Texas, watching Nascar, and traveling cross-county with his wife.

Also surviving are siblings, Dennis Philipp and Eugene (Donna) Philipp, Diane (John) Evans and Gaylene (Peter) Gunberg; brothers-in-law, Weldon Arndt, Mick (Marlene) Arndt, Dale (Phyliss) Arndt and Jerold Arndt, and sisters-in-laws, Marlene Isenberg and Marge Arndt.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Ruth Philipp; brother-in-law, Gary Arndt; sister-in-laws, Vivian Arndt, Della Philipp, and Bonnie Arndt.

A celebration of Gary’s life was held at Rio Valley Estate, in Weslaco, Texas, on March 7, 2015.

He will be dearly missed by friends and buddies in Texas, Mexico, as well as his carpenter friends in Minnesota.
