Robert “Bob” D. Green, 91
Granada Funeral Service for Robert “Bob” D. Green, age 91, of Granada, were held on Saturday, May 9, 2015, at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fairmont with interment in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ Cemetery in Pleasant Prairie Township, Rural Granada. Robert passed away on Monday morning, May 4, 2015, at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont.
Robert “Bob” Dale Green was born on October 26, 1923 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, son of Oren and Elsie (Anderson) Green. He attended country school and high school in Emmetsburg and Graettinger, Iowa. After high school Bob began farming in the Estherville area. Bob married his high school sweetheart Doris Strain on Feb. 10, 1948 in Estherville where they farmed for several years. They then moved in 1950 to Kimball, where they farmed with Bob’s brother. In 1953 Bob moved his family to a farm south of Blue Earth. In 1964 they moved to the Pleasant Prairie farm where they lived until Doris passed away on May 7, 1987. Bob moved into Goldfinch Estates Memory Care in October of 2012.
Bob loved his farm life and family, and enjoyed the frequent Pleasant Prairie neighborhood gatherings. Bob had a loving, tender heart for the animals entrusted to his care throughout the years. Bob was a current member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fairmont.
Those left to cherish his memory include his six children, Pat (Ken) Buhmann, of East Chain, Bob (Pat) Green Jr., of Granada, Lois (Craig) Jaskulke, of Madison Lake, Rick (Denise) Green, of Becker, Randy (Marilyn) Green, of Granada and Tom (Jeannie) Green, of East Chain; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Janette Green, of Graettinger, Iowa, Darlene Green, of St. Cloud, Alice Cress, of Mesa, Ariz., Marilyn Strain and Lois Montgomery, of Webster City, Iowa, and Shirley Strain, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; brother-in-law, Ray Montgomery, of Webster City, Iowa; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Oren and Elsie (Anderson) Green; wife, Doris Green; brothers, Byron, Boyd, Joe and Berle Green; sister, Lois Green; sisters-in-law, Jeannette Green, Rose Wherta, Helen Simmons; brothers-in-law, Glynn Cress, Bud Wherta, Orlo Simmons, Harry Strain and other relatives.
