Evelyn C. Burk, 100

Blue Earth Evelyn Burk, age 100, of Blue Earth, formerly of Truman died on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015 at the United Hospital District in Blue Earth.

Memorial service was held Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Truman, with burial in St. Paul’s Lutheran church cemetery in rural Truman. The Rev. Nathan Rusert officiated.

Evelyn C. (Urban) Burk was born to Julius E. Urban and Anna Bargeman in Pleasant Mound, Blue Earth Co. Township on Aug. 9, 1915. She graduated from Amboy High School in 1935.

Evelyn was married by A.F. Reinhardt, June 26 1936 to Thomas R. Burk at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Amboy. When married, Evelyn, Tom and Tom’s daughter, Gayle, moved to Vernon Center. In 1942, they moved to a farm three miles west of Amboy. Evelyn belonged to Guild, Women’s Missionary League, taught Sunday school, and sang in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Choir in Amboy. In 1956, they moved to a farm ten miles west of Amboy. They then joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Truman. Evelyn joined the Naomi circle and the church choir.

Since 1970, she and her husband spent the winters in Mesa, Ariz. When in Arizona she belonged to the Eternal Life Church where she sang in the choir and attended bible class. They belonged to the Holiday Rambler Travel Club, and attended many events over over the United States. After her husband died in 1993, Evelyn moved into a townhouse in Truman, later to Parker Oak’s Assisted Living in Winnebago, and then St Luke’s Lutheran Care in Blue Earth. Her hobby was oil painting. She enjoyed all of her cards for her 100th birthday on Aug. 9.

Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are her daughters, Gayle Kyllo, of Rochester, Carol (Garry) Tipler, of Winnebago, William (Dorothy) Burk, of Mankato, and Bonnie Berndt, of Eden Prairie; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas; son-in-laws, Arlen Berndt and Philip Kyllo; sisters, Esther Kietzer, Hulda Ritz, Anna Schneeberger and Edna Urban; brothers, Arthur and Walter Urban; sisters-in-law, Sue Orr and Florence Heckman; brothers-in-laws, George Burk, Perry Burk and Guy Burk.
