Helen I. Hobert, 95
Fairmont Services for Helen I. Hobert, age 95, of Fairmont, were held on Saturday, Sept. 26, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont. Burial was at the Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
Helen passed away Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2015, at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Helen Irene Hobert was born Feb. 28, 1920, in Garvin, daughter of Arthur and Hazel (Owens) Holm. She grew up in the Garvin community and graduated in 1937, from Tracy High School and Office Practices at Tracy Jr. College, Tracy. Helen was employed as a bookkeeper at the Garvin Coop, Creamery and Locker and at the State Bank at Balaton.
Helen was united in marriage to Dr. Eugene Hobert on Aug. 8, 1942, at the Congregational Church in Garvin. During World War II, they lived at Slayton, where her husband practiced Veterinary Medicine. In 1945, the couple moved to Blue Earth, where they raised their family and she assisted her husband with his veterinary practice. In 1972, they moved to Estherville, Iowa, in 1986, retired in Bella Vista, Ariz., and in 2002, moved to Fairmont. Helen and Eugene moved to Goldfinch Estates until Eugene passed away on Aug.16, 2007, having shared 65 years together. Helen moved to Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in 2014, where she passed away at the age of 95 years. Blessed be her memory. She will be deeply missed.
In the 1950s, Helen was a home tester for Betty Crocker. She enjoyed cooking and baking, crocheting afghans, knitting, and sewing. She was active in the ELCA church where she taught Sunday school, Bible classes and held offices. She was also active in other social and community organizations. She enjoyed playing cards, traveling, and working in their flower garden. Helen searched her family genealogy and enjoyed the love of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and relatives. She was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Fairmont.
Left to cherish her memory is a son, Collin Hobert, of Ames, Iowa; daughter, Vicki (Dennis) Fisher, of Lakeville and daughter, Debra (Robert) Engman, of Fairmont; grandchildren, Brent (Rhonda) Sabin, of Lake Elmo, Jacob Sabin, of Duluth, Amy (Ryan) Stuczynski, of Portland, Ore., and Heidi (Andrew) Wenger, of Bloomington; eight great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Ella Sabin, Calvin and Tabor Stuczynski, Jax and Jada Sabin, and Ava and Lucas Wenger; sister, LaDonna Rathje of Marshall; sister-in-law, Marilyn Holm, of Balaton; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Hazel Holm; husband, Eugene Hobert; brother, Marsden Holm; sister, Roberta Lewis; and brothers-in-law, Curtis Rathje and Marvey Lewis.
The family requests memorials be given in Helen’s name to the Fairmont Evangelical Covenant Church Building Fund.
The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
