Thelma Schewe

Blue Earth Thelma Louise (Werner) Schewe, age 95, of Blue Earth, passed away at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center on Nov. 22, 2015.

She was born on June 10, 1920 to Albert and Barbara (Nagel) Werner in Barber Township, near Delavan. She was baptized, confirmed, and a lifetime active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church east of Blue Earth. She worked as a mother’s helper and hired girl after attending a rural school through eighth grade. She married Gilbert Schewe on Nov. 19, 1941 at Immanuel. Together they farmed east of Blue Earth until their retirement and raised their four children.

Thelma enjoyed music and played many instruments by ear, entertaining family and friends. She was active in church, 4H, Faribault county home extension activities and quilting groups. She enjoyed reading, baking, traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Thelma is survived by two sons and a daughter; Albert (Barbara), of Emily; Margaret (Roger) Henke, of Red Wing; Les (Joan), of Blue Earth; daughter-in-law, Sharon Schewe, of Eagan; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband of 60 years, Gilbert; son, Herbert; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Rev. Wes Hafner officiated, burial followed at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.

Thelma’s family would like to thank the staff at St. Luke’s and Nicollet Place for their warm and tender care given to Thelma the past seven years.
