Alexander R. Klocek, 86
Fairmont Mass of Christian Burial for Alexander “Alex” R. Klocek, age 86, of Fairmont, formerly of Winnebago, was Thursday, March 3, 2016, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago. Interment was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Winnebago with military honors provided by the Winnebago American Legion Post 82. Alex passed away on Thursday morning, Feb. 25, 2016, at his home in Fairmont.
Alexander Raymond Klocek was born on Dec. 12, 1929, in Freeborn Township. He was the son of William and Martha (Dulas) Klocek. He attended country school in Wells, through the eighth grade.
Alex helped on the family farm until he enlisted in the U.S. Army on Sept. 28, 1951. He served as a sergeant with the 72nd Tank Battalion of the 2nd Division. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Camp Stars before receiving an honorable discharge on June 27, 1953.
After returning from his service, Alex worked in road construction and carpentry until 1972, when he went to work for JM Manufacturing in Winnebago until he retired in 1994.
On Sept. 29, 1956, Alex was united in marriage to Phyllis Howard in Winnebago. This union was blessed with four children, Kimberly, Douglas, Susan, and Craig. The couple shared 21 years together before Phyllis passed away in 1977.
On Oct. 24, 1987, Alex was united in marriage to Anna Wiederhoeft. Alex and Anna resided in Winnebago until moving to Fairmont in 2014. The couple shared 28 years together.
Alex attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago and was a member of the Winnebago American Legion Post 82, Korean War Veterans Chapter 254, and Disabled American Veterans. In his retirement he looked forward to helping family and friends with their field work during planting and harvesting season, fishing, bird watching, and gardening. Alex and Ann would spend hours cracking and shelling walnuts in their basement.
Left to cherish his memory include his wife, Ann, of Fairmont; four children, Kimberly (Jeff) Wendt, of Winnebago, Douglas Klocek, of Huntley, Susan (William) Bartels, of Waterloo, Wisconsin, and Craig Klocek, of Dallas, Texas; six step-children, DeeAnn (Dave) Britton, of Waseca, Richard (Betty) Wiederhoeft, of Fairmont, Scott (Natalie) Wiederhoeft, of Rochester, Tony (Heather) Wiederhoeft, of Mankato, Lori (Tim) Moore, of Beauford, David (Heather) Wiederhoeft, of Northrop; eight grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; four step- great-grandchildren; three brothers, Matt (Violet) Klocek, of Albert Lea, Louie (Janice) Klocek, of Wisconsin, and Kenny (Jackie) Klocek, of Tennessee; four sisters, Evelyn Strauser, of Blue Earth, Janice (Leroy) Puckett, of Hudson, Wisconsin, Angie Sauer, of Arizona, and Beatrice Rasmussen, of California; sister-in-law, Engold Diel, of Lewisville; sister-in-law, Sylvia Diel, of California; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Along with his parents, William and Martha Klocek, Alex was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis; two sisters, Leona and Rosie; two brothers, Hubert and Adrian; seven brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law.
The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont assisted the family.
