Alan D. Wirth, 85
Blue Earth Alan Duane Wirth passed away Friday morning at home with his family. Al was 85 years old and a longtime resident of Blue Earth.
Memorial service was held Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery of Blue Earth.
Alan was a native of Iowa. He and his brother Charles purchased Service-Soft Water Condition of Blue Earth in 1964 and moved his family to Blue Earth in 1965. Al and Chuck transitioned their partnership into Wirth Brother’s Distributing, Inc. which is still operating in Blue Earth. From 1972 to 1977 Al managed little league, VFW and Legion Baseball. These ball clubs won several District Titles and the young men he coached learned many life lessons about being a team and being winners. Al was an avid golfer and sportsman, enjoying the outdoors was one of his great pleasures. For over a decade, he managed the MN-IA Senior Golf Tour. The tour provided hundreds of golfers challenging courses throughout Northern Iowa and Southern Minnesota where they competed and enjoyed countless hours of companionship and laughter. As a buddy and friend to his crew, he was the ring-leader of many glorious days of fun. His greatest pleasure was his family. He truly enjoyed being a father, grandfather and great-grandfather, imparting wisdom and sharing stories was his specialty.
Alan was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict.
Al is survived by his wife of 65 years, Fran; Matthew (Sharon) Wirth, of Iowa City, Iowa, Brett (Lisa) Wirth, and their children, Serina, Bryce and Sara, of Blue Earth.
