Blaine Sweet, 50
Fairmont A celebration of life for Blaine B. Sweet, age 50, of Fairmont was held Saturday, May 14, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Blaine was born on May 25, 1965 in Blue Earth, to Bernard and Linda (Johnston) Sweet. He attended Fairmont High School and graduated with the class of 1984. After graduation he pursued vocational training in Sales and Marketing in Winona. He worked at several different jobs throughout his lifetime including Mel Carlson Chevrolet, ServiceMaster, and lastly, Weigh-Tronix, when he sadly had to leave his co-workers in December 2013 due to his health.
Blaine was united in marriage to the love of his life, Julie (Mausling) Nowak, on Sept. 30, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Fairmont. He was a loving, caring man and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He always loved animals, with Ivan and Meatball being his favorite dogs. He enjoyed going to dog shows, classic car shows, as well as deer hunting and fishing with family and friends. Since becoming homebound, he greatly enjoyed his electronic devices (TV, computer, cell phone, PS4) which allowed him to keep in touch with others. He had many Facebook friends and enjoyed giving his daily “weather report” with an inspirational message.
Following complications from a fall, Blaine was called home to be with his Lord on Friday, May 6, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, at the age of 50 years, 11 months, and 11 days. Although his body was becoming physically weak in his battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease), Blaine was strong and courageous in his fight and remained hopeful for a cure. His journey is now complete and the victory has been won! He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Julie Sweet; step-daughter, Jena Nowak; grandchildren, Mason, Ashlyn and Britney Hanson; mother, Linda Ruch; mother-in-law, Donna Mitchell; brothers, Cole Sweet and Dan Sweet; aunt, Marjorie Johnston, and special friend, Wayne Herrman; uncle, John Johnston; all of Fairmont; three brother-in-laws; two sister-in-laws; many beloved nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
Blaine was preceded in death by his grandparents, uncle, stepfather, and two father-in-laws.
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11:25-26 NIV
