Elizabeth L. Johnson, 94
Lake Crystal Elizabeth L. Johnson, age 94, of rural Lake Crystal, died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at Crystal Seasons in Lake Crystal.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 20, 2016, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Butternut, with Pastor Salim Kaderbhai, officiating. Burial will be in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before service at the church on Friday.
Elizabeth Louise was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Winthrop to Henry F. and Gertrude A. (Hermann) Lickfett. Elizabeth attended first grade in Winthrop before moving to Madelia in 1928, where Mr. Lickfett founded the Lickfett Elevator. Elizabeth attended school in Madelia and graduated in 1939. She attended St. Olaf College for one year. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Luther V. Johnson on Jan. 30, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia. From 1942-1946 they lived in Lebanon, Missouri, while Luther was in the service during WWII. In March of 1947, they moved to Evergreen Grove Farm, Butternut Township, rural Lake Crystal. Elizabeth was an active longtime member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Butternut.
Elizabeth was an avid reader, enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and she loved animals, especially raising and showing Appaloosa horses and Chihuahua’s. She was well known in the dog world as a breeder of champion Chihuahua’s and traveled extensively throughout the Midwest showing her dogs. Some of her dogs were also shown by professional handlers throughout the U.S. and had one dog shown at the Westminster Dog Show. She was an active member of the Key City Kennel Club since the early 1970’s. She belonged to the Chihuahua Club of America, Therapy Dogs International, and the Blue Earth County Humane Society.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Dean Johnson, of Good Thunder; daughter, Dedra (Dwight) Hervey, of Winnebago; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard and Ardis Johnson and Doris Johnson all of Madelia; and several nieces and nephews.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Luther on May 14, 2013; great-grandson, Kyle; and two brothers, Arnold and Hubert.
