Richard R. Quaday, 96

Blue Earth Richard Ralph Quaday, age 96, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016. Service was a Christian Mass at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016. He was born Sept. 2, 1920 in Blue Earth Township, to William and Lorena (Levenick) Quaday. He was baptized in Salem Evangelical Church of Blue Earth in 1921 and confirmed in 1935. Richard attended school in District 104 through seventh grade and graduated from Blue Earth Public School in 1937. He attended the School of Agriculture in St Paul in 1940-1941.

Richard and Neva (Fischer) were married on Jan. 19, 1942 in SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Blue Earth. Richard became an active church member singing in the choir and joining the Knights of Columbus Council 1836. He was an active 4th Degree 50+ year member of the Knights of Columbus. Between the years of 1938 and 1982, Richard farmed the “Sailor Place” which is located 1 1/2 miles southwest of Blue Earth. He was a 4-H leader for 21 years and served as the Cattle, Sheep and Hog Superintendent at the Faribault County Fair. In 1999, Richard was voted Faribault County’s Outstanding Senior Citizen and was a life member of the Faribault County Historical Society.

Richard was the author of the column “Quaday’s Quotes” in the Faribault County Register and authored a book, ‘Quaday’s Quotes’: “70 Years On A Blue Earth River Valley Farm.”

He is survived by sons, Charles (Jan), of South Haven, Dr. James (Karen), of Dellwood, Michael (Rose), of Shoreview; daughters Kathryn “Kay” (Larry) Husfeldt, of Brownton, Joan Wilson, of Westfield, Indiana, Mary (Jim) Stoffel, of Isanti, Jeanette Jorgensen, of Eden Prairie, Pauline (Merlyn) Siem, of Blue Earth, Margaret “Peg” (Craig) Kalskett, of Leland, Iowa; grandchildren, William Quaday, Melissa (Tim) Owens, Steven Quaday, Joseph Lacher, Eric (Jill) Lacher, Shelli Wilson, Jessica (Ben) Larson, Nicholis “Nico” Quaday, Rachel Quaday, Jason (Jerusha) Siem, Jeff (Julie) Bormann, Anna, Lorena and Andrew Bormann; great- grandchildren, Rachel Quaday, Geneva Owens, Valencia Owens, Alexandria Owens, Stevie Lacher, Henry Larson, Samuel Larson, Dashe Lee Sankey, Therese Lynn Bormann; step-grandchildren, Evan Husfeldt, Sydney Husfeldt, Tom Stoffel, Steven Siem and many nieces, nephews and relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Neva; father, William; mother, Lorena; sister, Marie (Don) Anderson and brothers, Francis at birth, Carl (Mildred) Quaday, and John (Stella) Quaday
