Cathy A. Osmundson, 58

Oct 16, 2016

Blue Earth Memorial service for Cathy A. Osmundson, age 58, of Blue Earth, was Saturday, Oct. 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. Burial will be at a later date at Fairview Memorial Park in Fairmont.

Cathy went home to God after a 20 year fight on Wednesday morning, Oct. 12, 2016 at her home in Blue Earth surrounded and loved by her family.

Cathy Ann (Tietje) Osmundson was born on March 6, 1958 to Eldon and Janice (Benck) Tietje in Seattle, Washington. Her family moved when Cathy was nine to a dairy farm north of Fairmont. She attended St. Paul Lutheran School until high school where she graduated from Fairmont High School in 1976. Cathy raised four kids while going to school to earn her LPN license. On October 23, 1996, she was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer. She fought hard for 20 years while raising her children and earning her four year BSN nursing degree in 2005.

Cathy had a gypsy soul, never let too much grass grow under her feet. Her biggest therapy was the wind blowing through her hair on her beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle. She enjoyed attending the Sturgis Bike Rally every year, traveling, crafting and sewing, cooking and attending the Big Island Rendezvous in Albert Lea. She also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and caring for and visiting with the elderly.

No matter what challenges Cathy had and the constant fight with cancer, she stayed positive and had advice and encouragement for others. She touched so many lives and hearts around the country. Cathy taught many to just live, follow your dreams and lean on God and never take no for an answer.

Those that will cherish her memory include four children, Matt (Megan) Johnson, of Winnebago, Kenndra (Jim) Ricard, of Blue Earth, Kyle Osmundson, of Blue Earth and Kalin Osmundson, of Blue Earth; seven grandchildren, Malayna, MaKylin, MaLeah, Jackson, Kenley, Coralyn and Sara; parents, Eldon and Janice Tietje, of Auburn, Washington; brother, Russ (Sue) Tietje, of Issaquah, Washington; sister, Brenda Aday of Auburn, Washington; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her daughter, Michele Osmundson; grandparents, Ewald and Millie Tietje and Walter and Evelyn Benck.
