Lee Schultz, 84
Easton Leon A. Schultz, age 84, of Easton, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017 at Pathstone Living in Mankato. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, with Fr. Peter Klein and Deacon Gene Paul officiating. Visitation will be Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at OLMC Catholic Cemetery in Barber Twp., Faribault Co. Military honors will be accorded by the Easton American Legion Post #569.
Lee was born May 6, 1932, on the family farm near Easton, the son of Henry and Mary (Rauenhorst) Schultz. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1950. After high school, Lee served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954-1956. After an honorable discharge, he began working as a salesman for the Elmore Nursery. He was united in marriage to Marjorie “Midge” Havel of Mankato, on July 1, 1961. To this union four children were born, Jen, Joe, Dave and Mary. Lee and Midge lived on their farm in Easton, for 55 years.
In addition to working at Elmore Nursery, Lee also operated his farm. In 1969, Lee established Blue Earth Landscape and Floral. In 1972, he began the Sherburn Nursery. Lee later began a landscaping business on his farm in Easton, called The Easton Nursery. His son Joe took over the Easton Nursery in 2010, and continues to operate it. After retirement, Lee loved to mow his lawn, and feed and watch the birds. He enjoyed watching the wild turkeys cross his lawn.
Lee was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton. He was a member of the Minnesota Nurserymen’s Landscape Association for many years. Lee was a member of the Easton American Legion Post #569, where he was a past commander and a member of the color guard. Lee enjoyed hunting and was an avid sports fan. His family was his pride and joy, and he loved playing with his grandkids.
Lee is survived by his wife of 55 years, Midge Schultz, of Easton; children, Jen (Zane) Levine, of Janesville, Joe (Jodi) Schultz, of Easton, Dave (Danielle) Schultz, of Lebanon, Ohio, Mary (Mike) Sokup, of Altoona, Wisconsin; 12 grandkids; and two great-grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Cletus, Victor and Vern; three sisters, Carmel Murphy, Marvel Kubu and Anita Virnig.
