Phyllis Luhmann

Fairmont Services for Phyllis M. Luhmann, age 88, of Fairmont, was on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township. Burial followed the service in the St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery in Northrop. Phyllis passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Goldfinch Estates in Fairmont.

Phyllis Marie (Decker) Luhmann was born on June 21, 1929, in Rutland Township, Martin County, the daughter of William and Edna (Anders) Decker. She began her education attending parochial school at St. James Lutheran School in Northrop. She would finish her education attending Granada Elementary and graduating from Granada High School with the class of 1947. Following her graduation, Phyllis would go on to Mankato Commercial College in Mankato.

On Sept. 5, 1948, Phyllis was united in marriage to Carl H. Luhmann at the St. James Lutheran Church in Northrop. Together the couple made their home in Northrop until 1950 when they moved to Pennock. In 1952, they would return to the family farm near Granada until 1980 when they moved into Northrop. In 2003, the couple moved to Fairmont where they have lived in Goldfinch Estates and Maplewood Apartments.

Phyllis worked for many years at the ASCS office in Fairmont and also worked for the Fairmont Sentinel, Sears and Fairmont Hearing Aid Services. On Sept. 1, 2000, Phyllis retired.

In her spare time, Phyllis enjoyed spending time outdoors in her garden, fishing, camping and boating. She was an avid reader, and liked to play cards, cook and sew. Most importantly Phyllis loved spending time and making memories with her family.

She was a lifetime member of the Northrop American Legion Auxiliary and the St. James Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish her memory include her sons, Carl P. Luhmann of Luverne, Stevan Luhmann of Sherburn, and Gary (Sandra) Luhmann of Granada; daughters, Gwen (Clyde) Hewett of Delavan, Sharon Edinger of Minnetonka, and Patti (Michael) Salic of Winnebago; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great- grandchild; four sisters-in-law, Donna Decker, Fern Luhmann, Arleen (Virgil)?Heidenreich and Winnifred Luhmann; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edna Decker; husband, Carl Luhmann; brothers, Gordan Decker and Robert Decker; granddaughter, Whitney Luhmann; mother and father-in-law; a niece; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and aunts and uncles.

The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
