Eleanor A. Bahls, 83
Formerly of Owatonna Eleanor Alice (Brown) Bahls, formerly from Owatonna, recently relocated to Trinity, Florida, passed away quietly at home on Jan. 30, 2018.
Eleanor was born July 19, 1934, in Winnebago, to Alvin and Hazel Brown. She grew up on a farm, attended country school and high school all in Winnebago. In 1951, Eleanor graduated from the Minnesota School of Business as a medical lab technician and was employed at the Winnebago Community Hospital where she set up the first lab. On Aug. 29, 1952, Eleanor was married to Allan Bahls at Pleasant Prairie Evangelical United Brethren Church. She and Allan worked and raised their family on the home farm. Eleanor also managed various departments at Brett’s in Mankato and was a family home health aide for Martin and Faribault County Human Services. In 2007, after Allan’s death, Eleanor moved to Owatonna, where she lived until December 2017. At that time, she relocated to Florida.
Together, Allan and Eleanor farmed, raised hunting dogs, were involved in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, enjoyed camping, fishing and living life together. Her pastimes and interests included reading, knitting prayer shawls, cooking and baking, and gardening. She was an avid fan of all Minnesota professional sports teams and loved talking about the Twins, Vikings and The Wild. Many people were inspired and touched by her lifelong involvement in church through Bible studies, women’s groups and youth leadership, as well as her daily Christian walk. Above all, her greatest earthly passion was her family. She cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She traveled from home to home sharing life and making new memories with each visit.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Mark Bahls, Winnebago; Cynthia (Dan) Green, Roscoe, Illinois; Catherine (Michael) Benner, Bloomington; Christine (Dave) Kvasnicka, Edina; and Sandra (Tod) Greene, Trinity, Florida; nieces, Donna Brown, and Mary (Steven) Zebedee, Winnebago; brother-in-law, and sister-in-law, Richard and Shirley Howard, Deer River; her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her beloved Allan; son-in-law, David Henke; daughter-in-law, Peg Bahls; parents, Alvin and Hazel; brother, Thomas Brown; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Duane and Donnabelle Lane.
