Shirley A. Monson, 89

Blue Earth Shirley Ann Monson, age 89, of Blue Earth, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at United Lutheran Church in Frost, Rev. Arne Halbakken officiated. Burial was in United Lutheran Cemetery, Frost. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com

Shirley was born Oct. 19, 1928 in rural Frost, to Gerhard and Josephine (Amundson) Sandness. She was baptized and confirmed in Emerald Church at Frost. She graduated from Frost High School in 1946. On March 12, 1948 she married Merrill Monson. Together they lived in Rake, Iowa and Frost until their move to Elmore in 1950. She worked at Emerson Grocery, Ostermann Grocery and Fischer Drug until their move to Blue Earth in 1967. She worked at a Department store in Blue Earth for 21 1/2 years.

Shirley is survived by nieces, Sharon (Butch) Erichsrud, Virginia Johnson, Betty Trytten, all of Blue Earth, and Carol (Mark) Winter, of Rake, Iowa, Janet and Julie Monson, of St. James, and nephew, Robert Johnson, of Northfield; great and great-great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Virgil (Sonja) Monson.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and infant daughter; her parents; brother, Ervin Sandness; sisters, Evelyn Aarvick and Gladys (Stanley) Johnson; mother and father-in-law, Mons and Alvina Monson; grandparents, Andrew and Sethona Sandness, and Evin and Anna Amundson.
