Karen M. (Curtiss) Preston

Formerly of Blue Earth Karen Marie (Curtiss) Preston passed away on March 13, 2018 at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, where she has resided since September 2016.

Funeral services for Karen Marie (Curtiss) Preston will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at the Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth, immediately following the service. Online condolences can be made at www.pattonfh.com

Karen was born in Blue Earth on Oct. 17, 1955. She was the second child of Keith Ray and Phyllis Marie (Schmidt) Curtiss. She was baptized and confirmed at First United Methodist Church of Blue Earth.

Karen attended elementary and high school in Blue Earth where she graduated in 1975. She received a certificate of nursing from Austin Vocational school in 1977. She later received her LPN degree.

Karen began her employment at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 1978. She worked in several departments on the Mayo campus which included stints at St Mary’s, Mayo building and Charter House. She retired from Mayo in September of 2011 after being diagnosed with “early on-set” Alzheimer’s disease. Karen was very proud of her 33 years of service.

Karen and Alvin Trabert were married in 1982 at Salem Methodist Church in Blue Earth and later they divorced. Karen and Jim Preston were married at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester on June 11, 2011.

Karen loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, camping, traveling, hiking, fishing, gardening, her pets and rides in the car. She loved to look at the cows and their calves when we traveled.

She was preceded in death by her mother Phyllis in 2006 and her father Keith in 2010,

She is survived by her husband, Jim, of Rochester; Amy (Jeremy) Pearson, of Rochester, Dan Trabert, of Rochester, Ashley (Rene) Guillen Romero, of Rochester; six grandchildren, David, Raiden-Lea, Jade, Esperanza, Olivia, and Elicia; all of Rochester; brother, Mike (Pam) Curtiss, of Blue Earth, sisters, Becky (Doug) Nagel, of Blue Earth, and Christy (David), of Shakopee, many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
