Lester H. Egeness, 95
Frost Lester Harold Egeness, age 95, of Frost, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center of Blue Earth. Funeral Services were held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at United Lutheran Church of Frost Rev. Arne Halbakken presided. Interment will be at a later date this Spring at United Lutheran Cemetery.
Lester was born on June 6, 1922, to August and Hilda (Berge) Egeness in Rome Township, Faribault County. He grew up on a farm just outside of Frost. Lester was the youngest of 13 children. He was a star athlete and participated in many sports, including, football, basketball, and track. Lester graduated from Frost High School in 1940.
After graduation, Lester attended Gustavus Adolphus College for one semester before returning to help out on the family farm. In 1944, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and fought in the Pacific Theater. On March 18, 1944, Lester married his high school sweetheart, Mavis Elizabeth Dahl. After Lester returned from the war, the two settled down on a farm outside of Frost, to farm and raise a family.
Along with farming, Lester drove school bus for over 35 years. He retired from farming at the age of 63 but continued to drive the school bus for many more years. Lester loved to read, dance with Mavis, or anyone willing to dance with him, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Lester is survived by his two children, Carol Arndt of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, and Paul Egeness, of Frost, and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives and friends.
Lester is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mavis; parents; his 12 siblings; and son-in-law, Jeff Arndt.
Memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
