Dean L. Thompson, 75
Elmore Dean Leroy Thompson, age 75, formerly of Elmore, now Sedalia, Missouri, died Sunday, April 15, 2018, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Dean LeRoy Thompson was born Nov. 30, 1942, the son of Francis and Stella (Hovland) Thompson. He graduated from Elmore High School in 1960. Dean graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa, in 1962. He was married to Lavonne Hanson (Bricelyn) at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Frost on July 17, 1965, later divorcing. Dean was the father of Todd (Corrine), Craig, Jason (Kari), and Tanya (Ryan), and grandfather to Kortni, Riley, Peyton, Beau, Jayce, Meg, Avery, Amelia, Ruby, and Zoey.
Dean worked in accounting for Elmore and Winnebago Concrete and National Trade Specialists, Warrensburg, Missouri, where he had been employed the past 13 years until his passing. Dean was a Minnesota Viking season ticket holder since their inaugural season up until the last couple of years. His hobbies included attending Minnesota Gopher football and basketball games, golfing, attending rock concerts, playing pickup basketball games, and grilling his favorite meats for all to enjoy. Dean loved taking the baseline shot with his smooth left-handed shooting stroke. His motto playing basketball was “If you are cold shooting, keep shooting until you are hot.” Dean was also Cheap Trick’s #1 fan and attended over 70 of their concerts when the band played in the midwest.
He is survived by his sons, Todd (Corrine) Thompson, of Greene, Iowa, Craig Thompson of Elmore, and Jason (Kari) Thompson, of Owatonna; daughter, Tanya (Ryan) Dunn, of Altoona, Iowa, 10 grandchildren and special friend, Linda Gotschall. Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Lois Lee.
Funeral Services were held Friday, April 20, 2018 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, Pastor Robert Roettger officiated.
