Following his graduation, Robert made his home in the Fairmont area and worked as a machinist at Artsway in Armstrong, Iowa, and Nortech Aerospace Systems where he retired from in 2016.

Bob loved the outdoors and jumped at the chance to spend time fishing. He was also very interested in Indian artifacts and enjoyed hunting for them in addition to studying them and their history. After returning to Fairmont in 2001, Robert became a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was later baptized into the Lutheran faith in 2002. Bob was also a long-time member of the Trimont Conservation Club.
