Tom Carr, 85
Blue Earth Tom Carr, age 85, of Blue Earth, died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center, with his family at his side.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at 11 a.m., at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, Fr. Peter Klein officiated. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at a later date. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com
Tom was born March 13, 1933, in Blue Earth, the son of Paul and Anna (Daly) Carr. He graduated from Elmore High School in 1951. On May 21, 1953 he joined the United Sates Army and served until May 4, 1955. On Jan. 10, 1959 at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis he married Mary (Mimi) Ayleen Murphy. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage.
After discharge from the army Tom drove an ice cream truck for two years and then began his 40-year farming career in Pilot Grove Township. Retirement didn’t stop his love for farming as he helped his son into his 82nd year. Tom and Mimi enjoyed traveling all over the United States, visiting 49 of the 50 states, with their favorite destinations being Hawaii and Arizona. Tom also enjoyed golfing at Minn-Iowa and Riverside Golf Courses. In the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling in Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin. Tom and Mimi enjoyed their grandchildren, going to their many activities and calling them often.
Tom was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years, serving in many capacities. He was also a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Minn-Iowa and Riverside Golf Courses, Assisi Board and was also on the Pilot Grove Town Board.
Tom is survived by his wife, Mimi Carr, of Blue Earth; children, Susan Carr, of Blue Earth, Helen (Warren) Wells, of Bloomington, Joan (Fred) Hansen, of Shakopee, Bill (Suz) Carr, of Elmore; grandchildren, Ann Marie Wells, Katie Wells, Jacob Wells, Sarah Hansen, Becca Hansen, Nathan (Mandy) Carr, Nicole Carr; brothers, David (Sharon) Carr, Roger (Candis) Carr; sister, Mary (Tom) Allenburg; many nieces and nephews.
Tom was preceded in death by his daughter: Ayleen Carr; and his parents.
