JoAnne M. Ascheman, 84
Blue Earth JoAnne Marlene Ascheman, age 84 of Blue Earth, formerly of Easton, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2019 at United Hospital District in Blue Earth. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2019 at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth, Fr. Brian Mulligan officiated. Burial was held in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Barber Township, Faribault County. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells was in charge of arrangements. JoAnne was born Oct. 14, 1935, the daughter of Harold and Marie (Cook) Walker in Winnebago. She graduated from Delavan High School, the class of 1953. On April 25, 1955, JoAnne was united in marriage to Donald E. Ascheman in Easton. To this union seven children were born. She and her husband Don operated their own upholstery business in their home, as well as operating their dairy farm. They later managed South Central Mutual Insurance Agency in Blue Earth. Together they took many camping trips across the country with their kids when they were growing up. There were also many weekends spent at the cabin in Pequot Lakes with the family. After Don passed, JoAnne retired and relocated to Mesa, Arizona; she still kept in touch with friends there. JoAnne was the central person in the family; she kept in touch with friends and family from near and far. JoAnne was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church and MCCW. She loved quilting, and made a quilt for each of her 13 grandchildren. She was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. The annual Ascheman Cookie Bake was always a favorite with her family. JoAnne enjoyed cooking, playing piano and organ.
JoAnne is survived by her children, Doug (Lynn) Ascheman, of Easton, Steven (Derek Leighton) Ascheman, of Austin, Texas, LuAnn Ascheman-Adams (Glenn Hagfors), of North Mankato, Julie (Mike) Haase, of Blue Earth, Sheila (Ron) Osmundson, of Delavan, and Denise (Tom) Whitehead, of Brainerd, James (Patti) Ascheman, of Minnetonka; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eldon (Ramona) Walker, of Luverne, Maurice (Sharon) Walker, of Winnebago; sister-in-law, Judy Pletz, of Blue Earth; along with several nieces and nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald (1997); siblings, Eugene Walker, Mary Lou Walker, Shirley (Dale) Ripley, and Barbara Stordahl; nephew, Brad Ripley; and brother-in-law, Pete Pletz.
