Darleen E. Evans, 85
Park Rapids/Elmore Darleen Emily Evans passed away on May 28, 2020 at her home in Park Rapids.
Darleen was born on March 17, 1935 to Edward and Emma (Peter) Ristau at Elmore. She attended a rural one-room school and then transferred to St. John’s Lutheran Parochial School. She was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in 1948. In 1949, Darleen moved with her parents from the farm into Elmore where she graduated from High School in 1952. She attended Mankato Commercial College and then was employed as an administrative assistant at the Elmore Public School.
On Aug. 22, 1954, Darleen was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Lyle Evans at St. John’s church. They made their first home at Braham, where Lyle was employed at the Rock Funeral Home and Darleen worked in the office at the Braham School. While living in Braham they were blessed with two children, Mark and Stephanie.
In 1965 the family moved to Carrington, North Dakota where they purchased the funeral business in Carrington and New Rockford. Darleen was employed part time with the business and when they retired in 1992 they moved to Venice, Florida. They have spent the summer months at their home at Park Rapids.
Darleen has always been active in her church with choir, vacation bible school and teaching Sunday school. She enjoyed playing bridge and dominoes and doing the daily crossword and sudoku puzzles. She was an avid reader and belonged to two book clubs and the couple enjoyed traveling in their retirement. She also golfed and attended the school sports and music activities in which her children were involved. For many years she sang with the Carrington New Rockford Music Club.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle; son, Mark (Pam), of Park Rapids; and daughter, Stephanie (Kris) Wernhoff, of Shelburne, Vermont. Also surviving are grandchildren, Brad (fiancee, Breanna Janzen) Evans, of Bemidji, Jay Evans, of Fargo, North Dakota, Elise (Brad) Pecue, of Waterbury Center, Vermont and Peter (partner, Jenna Cloutier) Wernhoff, of Colchester, Vermont; step-grandson, Adam (partner, Kristin Trapp) Mayer, of Minneapolis; and great-grandchild, Wesley Pecue.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Ronald Ristau, of Elmore; and sister, Donna Hanson, of Blue Earth.
The family would like to express its deepest gratitude to the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice Care for the loving care they provided Darleen.
A family graveside service will be held at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery, Park Rapids. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
