James E. Wangen, 83
St. Paul James E. Wangen, age 83, of St. Paul died Tuesday, June 16, 2020. James Elton Wangen was born Nov. 24, 1936 in Bricelyn, to Elvin and Marie (Kallestad) Wangen. James “Jim” attended Blue Earth High School. Jim had many fond memories of growing up in a close, loving family.
Jim later served in the Army at Fort Lewis in Washington State. Between 1957-1959, while serving at Fort Lewis, Jim was an accomplished Army boxer. After returning to Minnesota Jim worked various jobs including building construction and hospital environmental cleaning and custodial services.
After returning to Minnesota Jim became a student of the Bible, a Jehovah’s Witness, and dedicated his life to his beliefs. Jim married Lucretia Barr in 1978. Jim and Lucretia shared their life and faith together until Lucretia died in 1999. Jim and Lucretia enjoyed numerous trips to Hawaii, and Jim often reminisced about those trips, sharing experiences with family and friends. A highlight for Jim was getting together with his siblings and family in Blue Earth. They enjoyed many laughs and a love of music. Jim is remembered for his sense of humor, reminding the male relatives and friends that “they’re still not as good looking” as him.
Survivors include brother, Abdiel “Skip” Wangen, of Blue Earth; sisters-in-law, Arlene Wangen, of Mankato, and Mary Lou Wangen, of Austin. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Elvin and Marie Wangen; his wife, Lucretia in 1999; sister, Lola Handahl; brothers, Gene and George Wangen; and brother-in-law, Gordon Handahl.
