New Prague/Blue Earth Diane M. Schmidt, age 67, of New Prague, died on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2020 at Mayo Health Systems in New Prague after a battle with cancer. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020 at 11 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, Belle Plaine. Visitation will be on Monday, Sept. 14, 2020, 4-7 p.m. at the Kolden Funeral Home in Belle Plaine. Burial will follow the funeral service at Oakwood Cemetery, in Belle Plaine. Pastor Mark Johnson will officiate the services.

Diane was born on June 22, 1953 to Russell and Adelyn (Ehrich) Pirsig in Blue Earth. She grew up in Blue Earth and graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1971. She married Bruce Schmidt on June 16, 1973 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Blue Earth. The couple lived a short time in Pine Island before moving to Belle Plaine in 1974. Diane worked as a day care provider for a time while raising her children. She later worked at Wendt Labs and seasonal work for Tim Kornder at Belle Acres. Her later years she worked for Osmonics in Eden Prairie and lastly as a clerk at a convenience store in Chaska. In 2007 moved to New Prague. Diane enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, cooking and her county fair prize baking. She especially enjoyed time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce, of New Prague; children: Christina Lochli, Jeff (Christina) Schmidt, of Lonsdale and Mike (Sadie) Schmidt, of Belle Plaine; grandchildren: Dalhas Hendricks, Austyn Schmidt; Ella, Jesse, James Schmidt; Ashley Lochli (special friend, Roderick Combs), Jessica (Cory) Richards, Brandon Lochli and Emmanuel Lochli; great-grandchildren: Autumn, Thomas and John Richards; siblings: Wanda (Elmer) Knaack, of St. James, Brenda (Mark) Heier, of Waseca; also survived by her dog and loving companion, Gracie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her father, Russel in 2003, and her mother, Adelyn in 2007
