Mapleton Thomas Henry Lubitz, age 90, of Mapleton, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020 at the Fairmont Medical Center in Fairmont. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Oct. 15, 2020, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, Father Greg Havel and Deacon Gene Paul officiated. Thomas Henry was born Aug. 9, 1930 in Delavan, the son of Henry and Maude (Welch) Lubitz. Tom graduated from Delavan High School in 1948. He was united in marriage to Margaret Ann Rauenhorst Sept.11, 1951 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Easton, and to this union three daughters were born. They resided in Delavan, until 2011. Tom has been a resident of Mapleton Community Home for the past nine years.
Tom, his father, and brother, Howard, owned and operated Lubitz Grocery Store in Delavan for many years. He was also a Marigold Dairy delivery man for many years. Tom was a member of the American Legion for 69 years. Fishing was his passion along with boating, playing cards, following the Vikings and Twins, and spending time with his family.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; daughter, Pamela Kay Lubitz; three brothers, Michael “Jack” (wife Elaine), Howard (wives Mary Helen and Marlene), and Donald Lubitz.
He is survived by his daughters: Sue (Darwin) Sprong of Ames, Iowa, Jan (Terry) Sonnek of Mapleton; four grandchildren: Christopher Sprong (Michelle Bandstra) of Madrid, Iowa, Jaclyn (Brian) Anderzhon of Story City, Iowa, Matthew (Becky) Sonnek of Waconia, and David Sonnek of Wells, four great-grandchildren: Jonathon, Elijah, Mariah, and Blake; sister, CSJ Monica Lubitz of St. Paul; sisters-in-law, Shirley Lubitz of Columbia, South Carolina and Betty (Larry) Thisius and Marilyn Rauenhorst, all of Wells; along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
