Ruth Peterson

Fairmont- Funeral Services for Ruth E. Peterson, age 96, of Fairmont, and formerly of East Chain, was held on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont. Burial followed at East Chain Evangelical Free Church Cemetery. Ruth passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020 at Goldfinch Memory Care in Fairmont. The Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont assisted the family with arrangements.

Ruth Edna Niss was born on March 3, 1924 to Leonard and Ella (Finke) Niss in Welcome. She attended Welcome and Granada Public Schools.

On June 5, 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Maurice A. Peterson at the East Chain Evangelical Free Church. This marriage was blessed with three children, Terry, Patricia and Curtis. After their marriage, Maurice and Ruth lived in Clinton, Iowa for four years while Maurice was in the Army. While living there, Ruth worked for a year at the Variety Store. They then moved to the town of East Chain for one year and then began farming and made their home east of East Chain. In 1983, Maurice and Ruth retired and built a home on Budd Lake Drive in Fairmont. Ruth kept busy as a homemaker all her life.

Ruth was a member of the East Chain Evangelical Free Church where she served as Deaconess, taught Sunday School and Bible School. She served in many capacities for Women’s Missionary Society. Ruth helped start Christian Women’s Club in Blue Earth and Fairmont. She also enjoyed decorating sweatshirts and t-shirts and doing ceramics.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Terry (Sonja) Peterson, of Lakeville and Curt (Alice) Peterson, of Blue Earth; son-in-law, Dr. Mike Fisher, of Windom; grandchildren, Paige (Bryan) Huse, of Dexter, Jeremy (Katelin) Peterson, of Anoka, Michelle Grotte, of Fairmont, Dr. Ryan Peterson, of Los Angeles, California and Dr. Michael Fisher, of Windom; great-grandchildren, Katie Moon, Leah Moon, Kendall (Ryan) Mclaughlin, Jenna Peterson, Luella Peterson, Bryan Grotte and Colby Grotte; great-great-grandson, Wesley Mclaughlin; sisters, Arla Mae Childs, of Austin, Sherry Schmidt, of Ceylon, Karen Niss, of Canon City, Colorado; brother, Lenny Niss, of Tabor, South Dakota, sisters-in-law, Ardys Bloom, of Fairmont, Beverly Fretty, of Fairmont, and Judy Niss, of Fairmont; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Ella Niss; husband, Maurice A. Peterson; daughter, Pat Fisher; sisters, Truma Milford and Belvedere Schmidt; brothers, Loren Niss and Jerry Niss; parents-in-law, Henry and Mayme Peterson; brothers-in-law, Fillmore Peterson, Robert Peterson, Richard Childs, Glenn Milford, Corwin Schmidt, Walter Jensen, Melvin Schmidt and Jake Fretty; and sisters-in-law, Arloine Peterson, June Jensen and Geraldine Niss.
