Bricelyn – Dr. Jack Wayne Peterson, age 86, of Bricelyn, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021 at Parkview Care Center in Wells. A Funeral Service was held Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at Bricelyn Lutheran Church, Pastor Steven Woyen officiated. Burial was in South Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery. Jack Wayne was born Aug. 27, 1934 in Valley City, North Dakota, the son of Herbert and Nettie (Otterson) Peterson. He was baptized in Marion, North Dakota, and lived his first six years there. In 1940 the family moved to Vernon Center. Jack was active in 4-H projects and sports, and graduated from Garden City High School in 1952. He attended Oklahoma State University where he played basketball for Hank Iba for two years. Jack’s love of animals steered him to Veterinary School and he graduated in 1958. In June 1957 he married Janet Jacobson. After graduation they lived in Kiron, Iowa, for two years. In 1960 they came to Bricelyn to practice veterinary medicine as a partner with Dr. LeRoy Nelson. After 10 years he practiced alone and continued until December 2018, retiring after 60 and a half years in veterinary medicine.

Jack was active in church and community activities. He served as president of Bricelyn Lutheran, on the centennial committee, the United in Faith Parish merger and the stewardship committee. For the Bricelyn Community Club he hosted the annual Fourth of July Horse Show in his arena for over 50 years. Jack was a member of the AVMA, MVMA, Gideon’s International, Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association, Midwest Fjord Horse Club, MN Quarter Horse Association and 50 years in the Saddle (ND). He enjoyed participating in rodeos, flying, watercolor painting and basketball for hobbies, watching his children and grandchildren in sporting events and other activities.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Peterson, of Bricelyn; children: Lynn (David) Murray, of Rochester, Lori (Scott) Volz, of Frost, Jeffrey (Terri) Peterson, of Canton, South Dakota, and Steven (Kari) Peterson, of Owatonna; grandchildren: Daniel (Danielle) Volz, Kristine Volz (husband Nate Roisen), Brody (Kathryn) Peterson, Stephanie Murray, Jackson Murray, Dalton Suhr and Dylan Suhr; sister Gloria (Wayne) VanVoorst, of Lakefield; sister-in-law: Kären (Vern) Owens, of Medford; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott Wayne; in-laws: Malvin and Ruth Jacobson; sister-in-law, Deanne (David) Hanson.
