Blue Earth – John T. “Jack” McNerney, age 82, of Blue Earth, passed away on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021, at United Hospital District in Blue Earth. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 5, 2021, at SSPP Catholic Church in Blue Earth. Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery in Fairmont. The service was recorded at www.pattonfh.com.

John Thomas “Jack” McNerney was born on May 2, 1938 in Pleasant Prairie Township, Martin County, Minnesota to John Louis and Margaret (Wade) McNerney. He was the youngest of six children.

Jack attended St. Paul’s Catholic School in Fairmont through eighth grade and then attended high school at Granada. He graduated in 1956. He attended Mankato State College and Minneapolis School of Business.

Jack married Ruth Ann Schmit on Nov. 24, 1962 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Fairmont. They have four children.

Jack loved sports of all kinds. He participated as a young man, he followed his children’s sporting events when they were in school, and then in his later years he spent many hours, all year round, following college wrestling, watching the Twins and the Vikings (if they were winning). After he retired, he rediscovered his love of the game of golf which gave him much happiness and the joy of time spent with friends on the golf course.

Jack was a salesman, he loved to talk and share stories with his family and friends. Above all else Jack loved his family, his wife, children, and grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret; his sisters, Margaret and Nylene; his sisters and their husbands, Monica (Cliff) Post, Marvis (Louis) Maday, and Rose Ann (Gus) Ewald and Charles Schmit.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; children, Todd (Teresa) McNerney, of Charleston, South Carolina, Theresa (Mark) Lenz, of Scandia, Ann (Kelly) Lennon, of Minnetonka, and son, Michael (Gina Zierke) McNerney, of Blue Earth; eight grandchildren, Aidan, Thomas, Mathew, Sean, Elliot, Adeline, Riley, and Molly; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
