Karen J. Stine, 73

Truman – Karen J. Stine, age 73, of Truman, passed away peacefully at home with her loved ones after her brave battle with cancer. A funeral service will be held at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 2 p.m. A time for visitation will be held at Zaharia Family Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Nashville Cemetery on a later date. Karen was born on Oct. 18, 1947 in Winnebago to Ellsworth John and Alice Irene (Iliff) Richison. She grew up on the family farm in rural Winnebago, with her younger sister, Marlyce and younger brothers Kenneth and Michael. Karen graduated from Huntley High School in 1966. She spent many years as a home healthcare nurse, and she worked for 15 years at the local convenience store. On July 20, 1986, Karen married Bradley Michael Stine at Lincoln Park in Fairmont.

Karen loved planting her flowers in the spring and enjoyed sitting on her patio surrounded by them. She also enjoyed going to NASCAR races and watching golf. Karen loved traveling to Mexico and staying at her best friend’s home, outside of Tulum. She also had a love for mini vans and a distain for Red Door. She loved her time with the patrons at work, and the many great conversations. Most of all, Karen cherished every minute with her beloved grandchildren and greatgrandchild. Their time with “Nonny” was very special to her. 

Left to cherish Karen’s memory are her husband of 35 years, Brad; sons, Sean (Tammi) Smith, of Truman, and Zachary (Kate) Cegelske, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughters, Melanie (Jerry) Smith, of Truman and Emily (Joseph) Westphal, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; step-daughters, Christine, of Swea City, Iowa; and Anna (Travis), of Granada; step-son, Jason (Stephanie), of Blue Earth; grandchildren, Ethan, Matthew, Mitchell, Caleb, Brynley, Jameson, Malea, Layton, Leanne, Jayden, Samantha, Bryant, Keagan, Charlotte, Hudson, and Harper; and one great-grandchild, Marshall; sister, Marlyce (Tom), of Fallston, Maryland; brothers, Kenneth, of LeCenter, and Michael (Connie), of Winnebago; and many more aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and close friends. Karen is also survived by her companion and protector, Lady Bird.

She is preceded in death by her parents.
