Alan J. Perrizo, 87

Mapleton/Delavan – Alan Joseph Perrizo, age 87, passed away May 6, 2021 in Mapleton, of kidney failure. Alan was born Dec. 5, 1933 in Delavan, the son of Henry and Mary (Schwartz) Perrizo, the youngest of 10 children.

Alan lived and farmed on the family farm in Delavan for most of his life. He graduated from Delavan High School in 1951, and married his classmate and lifelong love, Shirley Buegler, on Dec.9, 1957. In 1980, Alan retired from farming and his son Tim took over the farm. Alan and Shirley moved to Woodland, California where Alan was the manager of River Garden Farms. He and Shirley made many dear friends during their time in Woodland. In 1995, they officially retired and moved back to the family farm in Delavan, and Alan helped Tim farm up until 2018. Alan spent his last years in the kind care at Heritage Place of Mapleton.

Alan was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church in Winnebago. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, puzzles, and watching his favorite sports teams, the MN Vikings, and Twins.

He is survived by his children, Timothy (Sue) Perrizo, of Delavan, Paul Perrizo, of Valley Springs, South Dakota, Jon (Becky) Perrizo, of Odebolt, Iowa, Daniel (Anita) Perrizo, of Heron Lake, Sandra (Mike) Kortuem, of Mankato, and Jean Perrizo, of Delavan; his sister, Phyllis (Harry) Ohanian, of Howell, Michigan; brother-in-law, Dean Goodrich, of Mankato; and sister-in-law, Ramona Walker, of Luverne. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren who lovingly called him “Grandpa Joe,” Catherine, of Richfield, Betsy (Ben Nylen), of Brooklyn Center, Stacy (Steve Oveson), of Columbia Heights, Joseph (Lissia Laehn), of Blue Earth, Mitchell (Paige Mogilefsky), of Rochester, Jaydan (Dezi Nielsen), of Mankato, Dani (Will) Melton, of Killeen, Texas, Zachary (Leah), of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Andrew (Kacie), of Bloomington, Alex (Ashley), of Grimes, Iowa, Adam, of Heron Lake, David (DJ), of Heron Lake, Matthew Kortuem (Elizabeth Roehm), of Richfield, and Mark Kortuem, of Saint Paul; two step-grandchildren: Scott (Diana) Hunt, of Payson, Utah, and Tony (Dasny) Hunt, of Carthage, New York; five great-grandchildren, Tristan, Grace, Oscar, Miles, Archer and Afton Perrizo; five step-great-grandchildren, Allison, Renee, Matthew, Alvaro, Thomas, and Isabella Hunt; and two step-great-great grandchildren.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Melissa Perrizo; daughter-in-law, Gloria Perrizo; brothers Raymond (Irene), Clifford (Blanche), Marvin, Jerome (Almyra), and Eugene (Audrey); sisters, Celeste, Veronica (Olin) Longworth, and Delores Goodrich.

Funeral services for Alan were held on Friday, May 14, 2021 at SSPP Catholic Church, Father Parrott officiated. Burial took place at Calvary Cemetery in Delavan. Services were recorded at www.pattonfh.com/obituary/alan-perrizo.
