LaVerne Tibbetts, 88

Blue Earth – On Jan. 26, 1933, LaVerne Tibbetts and his twin sister, LaVaye, were born in Huron, South Dakota to Donald and Ruth (Clement) Tibbetts. On Nov. 16, God reunited LaVerne with his family.

Vern “Tibby” Tibbetts, age 88, of Blue Earth, passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2021 at Parker Oaks Care Center in Winnebago. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Rev. Dr. Jeanette Bidne officiated. Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 22, at Patton Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Vern spent most of his youth in Bancroft, South Dakota, and graduated in 1952 from Bancroft High School.

Vern married Twila Farmer in Iroquois, South Dakota on June 7, 1953. The couple was blessed with four children: Jerry, Linda, Roxanne and Peggy.

In 1959, they moved to Blue Earth, where Vern worked for Pooley’s Scrap Iron, and then Telex Communication for 27 years.

Tibby was an avid sports fan, whether participating or watching. He played basketball, baseball, and was also involved in trap shooting and bowling. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to fish and hunt.

Vern and Twila spent 30 years enjoying and entertaining at their lake home on Upper Whitefish in Northern Minnesota.

He also enjoyed playing poker on Wednesdays with his buddies.

Vern was an active member at Trinity Lutheran Church, serving as a trustee and an usher. He was also on the Blue Earth Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years and served as Chief until retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Twila, of 68 years; son, Jerry, of San Diego, California; daughters, Linda Bromeland, of Blue Earth, and Peggy (Perry) Olson, of Blue Earth; grandchildren, Michelle (Denny) Davis and son Joey, of Morganton, North Carolina, Amanda Rick and daughters Kylee and Isabella, of Clearwater, Brandi Jo (Jeremy) Jacobsen and son Kohl, of Winnebago, Travis (Danielle) Olson and daughters Reese and Rylee, of Blue Earth, Ryan (Vanessa) Bromeland and children Brady, Hayden, and Harper, of Delavan, Tyler Bromeland, of Blue Earth; sister, Charlene (Dwayne LaFave) Daniko, of De Smit, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Brenda Tibbetts, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; aunt, Odella Tibbetts, of Mesa, Arizona; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Vern is proceeded in death by his daughter, Roxanne Potter; parents, Donald and Ruth; twin sister, LaVaye; sister, Margie; brothers, Craig and Don; brothers-in-law, Lowell, Wilbur, Alvin and Ernie; sisters-in-law, Dolly, Darlene and Bonnie.
