Charles Hanson, 77

Apr 28, 2023

Charles (Chuck) Hanson was born to Ron and Marian Hanson on Nov. 16, 1945 in Blue Earth. He was one of eight children. Chuck passed away on Dec. 10, 2022 at Citadel Post Acute nursing home in Mesa, Arizona. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at St. John’s Cemetery rural Elmore at 2 p.m.

Chuck attended Blue Earth High School and enjoyed wrestling. He was a very good wrestler but he wanted to work and make some money. He went to work for his brother in law and loved farming with Rodger and Joanne. Life keeps moving and so Chuck went to work at the Blue Earth Rendering Company. He was exceptionally happy to leave there and go the Farmers Elevator in Bricelyn. When he left Bricelyn he went to Year Around Cab in Mankato and later to Harvey Lorentz Roofing. It was his last job where he fell off a roof and became disabled.

Disabilities did not keep him down. He helped anybody and everybody with projects of all kinds. He loved to snowmobile, play pool, golf, bingo, bowl and be general handy man. At his park in Arizona he was the go to person. He could fix most anything they asked him to do. He was even a security guard at his park. The seasonal residents always relied on Chuck to take care of their homes when they were gone.

Chuck helped build a race car and became extremely active in racing. It didn’t matter who was racing because he knew everybody. Even when he came back to visit Minnesota he would go to races and catch up with several old friends.

On May 11, 2022 Chuck received his gold medallion for 50 years of sobriety. He was an avid AA attendee and always made the coffee! Chuck didn’t drink coffee but wanted to make sure it was there for those who did.

Chuck is survived by his two estranged children, his five grandchildren, his great-grandchildren; and two stepchildren; two sisters, Barb Tischer and Becky (Bob) Spencer, both of Blue Earth; and one brother, Dennis (Traci) Hanson, of Elmore; sister-in-law, Jeanette Hanson, of Blue Earth; and brothers-in-law, Elwood Sahr and Mike Bussinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joanne Boettcher, Nancy Sahr, and Judy Bussinger; and one brother, Bill Hanson.
