Patricia Ankeny, 75
(Formerly of Blue Earth) – Patricia (Patty) Ankeny, age 75, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 10, 2023, after a courageous six-month battle with cancer.
Patty was born on March 17, 1948 to her parents Guy and Dorothy Fredeen of New Brighton. In 1966, she graduated from Mounds View High School. She met Mick, the love of her life, while attending Gustavus Adolphus College. They married in 1968 and later settled in Blue Earth. They owned and managed a men’s clothing store until 1994, when they closed the store and she officially retired.
In 1999, Mick and Patty designed and built their dream home on Graves Lake in Remer. Patty loved taking care of her beautiful home, listening to music by the campfire and hosting family and friends. She also loved going on Canadian fishing trips with her husband and son’s family and bi-yearly shopping trips with her daughter.
As a mother, she was kind, supportive and hard-working. She was extremely proud of her children and grandchildren. Patty was an amazing cook, seamstress and loved winning at Words with Friends Scrabble. For the past ten years, Mick and Patty escaped the Minnesota winters and headed south to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. They had so many fun times and good memories with great friends.
Patty is survived by Mick Ankeny, her loving husband of 55 years; son, Mick (Amy) Ankeny, of Blue Earth; daughter, Kim (Brad) Wendland, of Waseca; five cherished grandchildren, Lindsey (fiancée Nick Tierney), Michael (fiancée Natalie Shimon), Tyler, Blake and Ryan; sister, Marcia (Gary) Sullivan; many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father. After her passing, we celebrated her life together as a family, around a campfire, which Patty would have loved.
