Hilary Lee Meyer, 66

(Formerly of Blue Earth) – Hilary Lee Meyer (nee Cook) died Feb. 26, 2023, in a fire in her Minneapolis home.

Hilary Lee Cook was born Aug. 3, 1956, to Dr. William Cook and Francis Hartwick Cook in Alton, Illinois. She and her younger sister, Meredith (born 1957), went to school in Alton until 1963 when their father had a stroke and the family moved to Blue Earth where their mother had grown up and had relatives. In 1972 she went into foster care and graduated from Mankato West High School in 1973. Hilary came back to Blue Earth and worked at Juba’s “Grill,” Green Giant, and Telex.

She attended Bethany Lutheran College for a year then transferred to MSU, there she met Scott Pell. They married Oct. 30, 1977 at Salem Methodist Church in Blue Earth. Eventually they moved back to Mankato where their son, William Pell, was born, Dec. 26, 1980. Hilary graduated from MSU in the summer of 1982 with a psychology major. Hilary and Scott divorced in June, 1982. Both sides of the family moved to Minneapolis separately.

Hilary worked mostly in healthcare-hospitals as well as nursing homes. While working in a group home she met Edward Meyer. They married on Oct. 4, 1997. She continued to work primarily in healthcare until her retirement in 2021.

Following her wish, she was cremated. She is survived by her husband, Edward Meyer; son, William Pell; sister, Meredith Cook; her aunt, Mary Octavia Monical; and numerous cousins and friends.

Celebrations of Life for Hilary will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, from 12-4 p.m., at the Blue Earth Senior Center; and Sunday, Aug. 6, 2023, at Nokomis Community Center, 2401 East Minnehaha Pkwy., Minneapolis, from 1-5 p.m. Both are pot luck.
